EMBODIED TAROT: MAJOR ARCANA - 18TH SEPTEMBER

About this experience

EMBODIED TAROT: DISCOVERING YOUR DECK THROUGH MOVEMENT
Sunday 18 September
11 AM - 1 PM
Sarah April Lamb

Please join us for a special series of workshops to celebrate the launch of FIND ME, FOOL—an immersive theatre project exploring queer journeys in a dreamworld inspired by the tarot.

This pair of workshops will explore what it is to move and embody the tarot deck. Whether it’s your first time approaching the tarot deck, or you are an experienced reader, these sessions will be an opportunity to search creatively and physically for your personal connection to the cards.

The first workshop will explore the Major Arcana and the second will explore the Minor Arcana.
You can book each event separately here or below:

Guided by movement practitioner Sarah April Lamb, each workshop will take a part of the deck and open up new ways of understanding its symbolism and depth. Using movement and somatic practices, we will let each card find its resonance in our own bodies, and explore ways to create movement rituals that connect us physically to our tarot practices. Each session will include provocations and methods to find movement in the deck; the movement you create will be personal and for your own body.

No previous movement experience is needed, just a curiosity about how tarot speaks to your body.

What to bring:
Come in comfortable clothes, and bring a water bottle with you. If you have a tarot deck that you would particularly like to work with, please feel free to also bring this along.

About FIND ME, FOOL:
FIND ME, FOOL is an immersive promenade performance through a home: a home of queer folk, a home of chosen family, a home watched over by the figures of the tarot. It is a world where the tarot deck comes to life in daily queer experience - where the Lovers look over first touches of new romance; where Death is called as a prom dress is laid to rest; where the devastation of the Tower glares over family dinners that we scream through together; and where The Star shines from within as we wash away old selves in the bath.

In a world where we are constantly being asked to question if we are too queer, if we are queer enough; to justify our sexuality, our gender, our lives; where we only see ourselves represented as pure glamour or utter tragedy – Find me, Fool is an invitation to come to our place for a cuppa, come join us for a dance, and get lost in a home where we are the Lovers and the Devil, the Sun and the Moon, where we are the World – complete, connected, celebrated.

Alongside each performance will be a creative social space where audiences will get to meet, connect and create together – trying out drag make up, learning to read tarot cards, or writing poetry. This space will allow queer audiences in East London to build community; a space where underrepresented queer folk can feel at home.

Sarah April Lamb is a movement practitioner working in theatre, circus and performance art. Since discovering tarot, she has been deeply interested in the relationship of the cards to movement and the body, and has been using her movement practice to deepen her connection to the deck. As a proud queer person, she is interested in how different expressions of gender archetypes have the potential to be found in all of us, and how through working with tarot and movement our multifaceted identities can be explored and interrogated. She is currently creating Find me, Fool, a site-specific theatre work exploring the worlds of tarot and queer domesticity.
